Venter Aims for Podium in 2015 GT Asia Series Opener

  • May 14, 2015

Jonathan Venter has arrived in South Korea and is looking for a strong start to his 2015 GT Asia series campaign, where he will be taking on some of the world’s best GT drivers. This will be Venter’s first, full GT Asia season, after competing in selected rounds last year where he impressed with his rapid pace and maturity. The young Australian will be driving for international race team, Craft-Bamboo Racing, a team that has experienced great success in past seasons, taking second place in the teams’ championship last year. Venter is looking to make his mark on the international GT race scene and will be fighting hard for a podium finish in South Korea.

Piloting the #99 Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 decorated in the iconic yellow-green VLT (Vita Lemon Tea) livery, Venter will pairing with championship winning driver, Darryl O’Young. They will be a tough pair to beat, mixing youth and experience that should see them challenging for the drivers’ and teams’ championship right from the start.

The race will be held at the Korea International Circuit, located in Yeongnam, South Korea. The track is 400km south of the nation’s capital, Seoul, and near the port city of Mokpo. A former Formula One Grand Prix host, the 5.615-km circuit features 18 turns and combines a layout that mixes both conventional and street design, providing a challenge for Venter who has yet to drive on the circuit. He will have to adjust quickly to its technicality and diverse layout, something the rising star will be focusing on during his practice sessions.

Venter is no stranger to the Aston Martin, putting in a stellar performance at the start of the year, in the Bathurst 12 Hour and recently being accepted into their prestigious Evolution Academy. He is one of only ten, young Aston Martin drivers in the world to be given the opportunity. The most successful participant at the end of the season will be awarded a factory works contract for 2016. This is something Venter will be fiercely competing for every time he hits the track.

Practice for the first round of the GT Asia Series will begin on Friday, May 15th. Qualifying one will be held on Saturday, May 16th, 10:00-10:15 (GMT+9), with qualifying two held from 10:25-10:40 (GMT+9). Race one will also be held on Saturday, running from 14:00-15:00. Race two will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 13:30-14:30. A 90 minute delayed broadcast of the event will be available from the GT Asia Series YouTube page, https://www.youtube.com/user/afosTV.

Jonathan Venter, Driver #99

“It’s my first time on the Korea International Circuit this weekend for the opener of GT Asia with Craft-Bamboo Racing. I’m confident that the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 will be very competitive in the field. It’s great having Darryl O’Young as my team mate as he has previous experience on the track so hopefully I can learn off his knowledge. Every year, GT Asia steps up in the level of competition and this year it has delivered once again with a great entry list, so I hope together with Darryl we can start off with a strong result.”
