Venter preparing for Bathurst 12hr after international endurance introduction

  • Feb 05, 2014

Sydney’s Jonathan Venter will compete in his second Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race this weekend,  following a successful introduction to GT endurance racing at the recent Dubai 24-Hour. Venter will be at the wheel of a Motorsport Services prepared Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car as he further develops his skills as a GT enduro driver.

The opportunity for Venter to participate in the international endurance race in the U.A.E. was his first true experience behind the wheel of a top level GT car, with the 17 year old being part of a team of four including fellow Australian, Keith Kassulke in an Audi R8.

“Going into the Dubai 24-Hour, I was very nervous, not knowing what to expect in my first internationalendurance race. I was chosen to complete qualifying, with my quickest time placing us second in class which reflected a superb team effort.”

“I was also given the opportunity to both start and finish the race which was an incredible experience.Being mid-pack in a 77 car field on a rolling start is not for the faint hearted! Our final result being third in class and 26th overall was a fantastic achievement after encountering a technical problem during the night session.” Jonathan also set the fastest lap time for his class during the race.

“The overall experience of the 24-Hour race is one that I will never forget and is by far the most rewarding  race I have ever competed in. I can’t thank theRed Camel Jordan.nl team enough for their support over the whole weekend and making the transition to the event format so easy,” Venter said.

“Driving a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car for my second Bathurst 12 Hour will present some new challenges. I’m keen to learn a lot this year from the more experienced drivers, but I will remain focussed on ensuring I do my very best at every opportunity I get in the car.”

“The entry list for Class B has attracted some big names. It will be crucial to have every aspect of our race as precise as possible to give us the best opportunity. It will come down to the ability of the drivers, the reliability of the car and the ability to overcome any problems in the most efficient manner.”

“I am really looking forward to the race and hope we can finish with a strong result,” Venter concluded.

The 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour will take place at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, NSW from February 7-9.
