Venter claims championship at Phillip Island
Jonathan Venter claimed the 2012 Victorian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island on the weekend.
After qualifying on pole position on a damp track, the racing was fierce and backing up from his pace in Friday practice, Jonathan was confident heading into the three races for the weekend. This confidence greatly assisted Venter towards the victory.
“To walk away with the Championship after not only a tough weekend such as this one but after a tough year of racing with some very good drivers is really exciting and I could not have asked for more,” Venter said.
Having also contested the Championship in his first year in a car in 2011, Jonathan returned to the hotly contested series in 2012 with one goal in mind - championship glory. Added to the season was an appearance at selected National rounds including the Qantas Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 where Jonathan provided strong showings against more experienced opposition.
“All the hard work from last year and this year trying to get the car to where it is now and keep finding the limit and pushing it that bit further has definitely helped keep the car fast this year and made for some very interesting and close races,”
“I would like to say a special thanks to Tim Beale from Anglo Motorsport and also everyone else involved in the team to help make this possible,” Venter concluded.
Jonathan’s racing plans for 2013 are currently being reviewed.
