Top 10 finish affirms Venter future in Formula Ford
Jonathan Venter has completed his second National Series event and the final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Symmons Plains in Tasmania on the weekend with consistent top 10 results in all three races, which continues to boost the confidence of the Sydney teenager.
After strong performances in the early stages of the meeting, incidents on the track managed to work in favour of a fast paced Venter across the 15 lap journey. Jonathan stated, “racing with my left rear wishbone bent in Race 1 and still finishing 10th gave me a boost in confidence as we knew that we definitely had more pace in the car,” further stating, “throughout the race, I seemed to have strong pace behind Liam Sager”. Race 2 saw Jonathan continue to narrow the gap between his and the leaders’ fastest lap times, resulting in an excellent finish in 8th.
Heading into Race 3, Venter said, “in race 2, I got into a comfortable rhythm behind Sager and continued to push hard till the end of the race where Tom Williamson had a problem which bumped me up another spot. Race 3 was going to be hard since there were a few strong drivers starting behind me due to incidents in race 2.”
Jonathan remained consistent across the entire final race, managing to fend off his more fancied opposition and hold down a top 10 place which again attracted a lot of attention toward the 15 year old. Venter jumped to 8th with 4 laps to go which is where he would remain across the line as the chequered flag dropped.
“As the race ended, it saw me in 8th position which was a good finish and I felt like I definitely made some progress from the earlier races. Coming away from the weekend, I have again gained much experience that will be vital in 2012,” Venter added.
Jonathan will now prepare for the final round of the Victorian State Formula Ford Championship set to take place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on November 25-27.
