A day of development and improvement for Venter at Sandown
Jonathan Venter has continued on his successful debut season in Formula Ford after a day that saw some development for his Anglo Motorsport Mygale which saw an eventual strong improvement as he continued his run in the top 10 today at Sandown, Victoria.
With qualifying allowing just 15 minutes to set a quick time, it meant Jono had to be on pace right from the start in order to get a clean lap in to ensure the best possible starting position for race 1. Venter said, “going into qualifying, we made quite a few changes to the rear of the car hoping that it will fix the problems from practice. Throughout the session, the car felt really good and it was a huge improvement on before, but I wasn't sure how I would compare to the rest of the field knowing that everyone would e going quicker with new tyres.” With the improvement in the session, Jono managed to grab 5th, and being just 4 tenths off pole position.
For race 1, an unfortunate start saw Jono lose two positions by the exit of turn 1; however a determined fight combined with luck going his way saw Venter gain further positions as the race progressed. A tussle ahead of him that saw Garry Jacobson spin allowed Venter a pathway through to 6th position, where he would continue to battle it out with Jordan Lloyd. As the 8 lap dash came to an end, the battle was ensured to continue in the upcoming races.
With two races ahead tomorrow, and the championship standings continuing to grow closer amongst the top group of drivers, each race here on in is crucial to determine the winner. Venter added, “going into tomorrow I believe we have a good package to race with and should be able to run with the front pack being only 1 tenth off Brabham (race 1 winner) in the opener. It will all be determined on how the race plays out.
